    • A group of 50+ doctors, nurses, translators and support personnel traveled to Riobamba, Chimborazo Provinde of Ecuador to set up clinics in small towns surrounding the city. We treated all who came, giving away medicines.

    • Ruby is an old mining town. Back in the early 1900's, millions of dollars were drawn from the Montana Mine and the town had over 1000 inhabitants. But in 1940, the mine closed, and by 1941 the town was deserted. Most of the buildings are still there and open for tours.

    • A visit to Kumanii on the Cayapas River to do t days work providing medical services to local people. We visited the towns of Corrientes Grandes, Naranjito and Cafetal. On the way back to the city we visited Mindo. And while in Quito we visited the Inca ruins of Rumicuncho and the inhabited volcanic crater of Pululahua. 
  • Chocolate Falls (Grand Falls), Arizona

    • During the week of April 12th it was reported that the water was flowing in the Little Colorado. That river feeds Grand Falls, better known as Chocolate Falls, on its way to join the Colorado itself. The nickname Chocolate Falls comes from the color of the water at this point being brown due to sediment in the water. On the way there we spent some time in Flagstaff marveling at the snow on the San Francisco Peaks.

    • On the Misol-Ha river there is a 120-foot waterfall that comes straight off the cliff into a deep pool. A path leads behind the waterfall to a grotto.

    • Yaxchilan is a small Mayan ruin, but very interesting. In order to get there, one must take a boat for about an hour down the Usumacinta River, which is the border between Mexico and Guatemala. The city is unique in that it lies in a horseshoe bend in the river that offered some protection. It is a city of the Classical Period of Mayan history.

    • Agua Azul is a very large area of waterfalls of various sizes on the Xanil River. The site is located 69 Km south of the town of Palenque. The flow of water has been lessened by a change in the course of the river due to the recent earthquake. But they are still beautiful.

    • The Buena Esperanza charro group is located on the outskirts of San Cristobal. Each evening they get together after work to ride, rope, and practice. We watched them riding young, unbroke horses, riding bulls, and tailing the bulls as well as show off their roping skills

    • It's known as Tseyi in Dineh. This narrow canyon outside of Chinle is full of ruins from Anasazi groups. We had lots of clouds and really strong winds as well as biting cold temps, so we drove the rim roads and did the overlooks instead of doing the jeep tour we had planned on. I still don't have the picture of Spider Rock that I want, so I guess I'll go back.

    • The red standstone turns to white at Natural Bridges, located just north of Lake Powell. There are several natural arches there. It's a small place and the drive takes you to nearly everything with some walking.

    • The fold is an eruption of boulders in a line following roughly the east side of Capital Reef NP. There is a dirt road that goes about 50+ miles through the fold, from Route 24 in Utah to Bullfrog Landing at Lake Powell. The colors and expanse of this strange natural phenomenon are extremely photogenic!

    • This canyon is actually an old roadway traveled by pioneers coming to the West. The road was built by the army to carry supplies. It was also home to indigenous cultures who left a lot of petroglyphs and pictographs on the canyon walls. There is an old stagecoach stop that grew into a small town, then died away. We ran into a blizzard the first day we attempted this drive, so we gave up and came back the following day.

    • Helper, Utah, is a town that has retained its old buildings on main street and some of its old houses. It's an old mining town, and railroad town, but now the RR has gone and it's just a nice little town.
